成語翻譯

成語是中國文化的一顆璀璨明珠。無論是正式文書還是日常交流都涉及成語的使用。
1、愛不釋手
釋義：喜愛得舍不得放手。
出處：南朝·梁 蕭統(tǒng)《陶淵明集序》：“余愛嗜其文，不能釋手。”
直譯：
so fond of something that one cannot take one's hands off it.
不過這種譯法不符合成語短小精干的特點，所以翻譯成語時，我們最常采用的辦法其實是意譯。
意譯：
The novel is so instructive that I can hardly tear myself away from it.
這部小說很有意義，簡直使我愛不釋手。
第一句采用了詞組tear oneself away from something來翻譯，突出了動態(tài)效果，類似的詞組還有很多，比如part with something, let go of something, put something down等。
Not a very enthralling book, but at the first glance you could see there a singleness of intention.
總之，這不是一本令人愛不釋手的書；不過，稍稍讀一下你就會發(fā)現，書的宗旨明確。
第二句則使用形容詞，指出之所以愛不釋手是因為這本書讓人著迷，類似的形容詞還有attractive等。
People say that this book is a page-turner.
人們說這本書讓人愛不釋手。
第三種方式是將愛不釋手名詞化，用的是page-turner這個詞，用口頭的話來說就是好看得根本停不下來，也體現了愛不釋手這層意思。
2、愛屋及烏
釋義：比喻愛一個人而連帶地關心到與他有關的人或物。
出處：《尚書大傳·大戰(zhàn)》：“愛人者，兼其屋上之烏。”
直譯：
the love for somebody or something extends to everything related with it
例句:
She loves French fashion, and then extends this love to French culture.
她很喜歡法國時裝，愛屋及烏，也喜歡上了法國的文化。
尋找目標語言中的對應表達：Love me, love my dog.
這個譯文并非憑空而出，而是英文中原有的表達。這也體現出了成語翻譯的另一種思路，即尋找英語中的對應語來翻譯。
3、安分守己
釋義：規(guī)矩老實，守本分，不做違法的事。
出處：宋•袁文《翁牖閑評》八：“彼安分守己，恬于進取者，方且以道義自居，其肯如此僥幸乎？”
直譯：
remain in one's proper sphere; abide by law and behave oneself
例句：
That carpenter wanted to become a lawyer, but he was advised to remain in his proper sphere.
那個木匠想當律師，但別人勸他安分守己地干他自己的老本行。
In fact, he is likely to suspect you even when you abided by law and behave yourself.
實際上，甚至在你還一向安分守己的時候，他也會懷疑你。
意譯：
The unity of our society is threatened by troublesome and restless minorities.
我們社會的團結遭到了一小撮滋擾生事、不安分守己的群體的威脅。
這句話采用的是以形容詞翻譯形容詞的方式，而下面這句話則是用了一個詞組來表達安分守己：
He's picking on Peter, and you know Peter's the last man in the world to cause trouble.
他老是跟彼得過不去。彼得是個最安分守己的人，這你知道。
尋找目標語言中的對應表達：
keep one’s nose clean（行為檢點，不作違法的事）
例句：
It's alright here as long as you keep your nose clean; if you don't, they treat you badly.
只要你安分守己，這里就太平。如果你搗亂，他們就會對你不客氣。
know one's place（按照自己的身份和地位行事，特別是指自己的地位比較低下的時候）
例句：
They treated their servants well, but expected them always to know their place.
他們對待仆人不壞，但期望他們時時安分守己。
4、安家落戶
釋義：到一個新地方安家，長期居住。
出處：郭沫若《鄭成功》第四章：“臺灣每年可收二三季，我們去只要辛苦得幾個月，就可以安家落戶了。”
直譯：
make one's home in
例句：
Many professors have made their homes in Rizhao.
日照吸引了不少教授在這里安家落戶。
意譯：
Is it a good place to raise a family?
那里是不是一個安家落戶的好地方？
這句話用raise a family表達在此地安居的愿望，與安家落戶意義相似。
What would happen if an animal that represents a threat to our children becomes able to thrive in urban areas?
